Despite her soaring career, Watson placed a strong emphasis on education. In 2009, she enrolled at Brown University, an Ivy League institution in Providence, Rhode Island, to study English literature. She began her degree while still filming the final Harry Potter movies, taking breaks from studies when necessary but remaining committed to completing her education.
Watson graduated from Brown in May 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in English literature. At her graduation, she was one of around 2,000 students receiving degrees, yet her presence drew significant media attention. In interviews, she has spoken about how important it was for her to have a university experience that was, as much as possible, “normal,” and to ground her identity in more than just her acting career.
